Accelerating the energy transition and the preservation of biodiversity
Global warming has major environmental and social impacts. Mobilizing all stakeholders to contain it well below 2°C, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, is imperative. Since 2011, BNP Paribas has been using all means at its disposal to accelerate the transition towards an economy with lower greenhouse-gas emissions, including the financing of renewable energies, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility. Its goal is to offer products and services to customers worldwide that enable them to contribute meaningfully to this change. In parallel, the Group has also been taking action in biodiversity, progressively integrating the preservation of biodiversity in all its activities. Biodiversity-related criteria have been included in sector policies since 2019. In 2018, BNP Paribas took part in launching the initiative act4nature. In 2019, the Group published a position on the protection of the oceans, and in the maritime sector, EUR 1 billion has been earmarked for the environmental transition of ships by 2025.
